How it works
Nrf2 normally sits in the cell held by a sensor protein, KEAP1. When KEAP1 lets go, Nrf2 moves into the nucleus and switches on the cell's protective genes, among them HO-1, NQO1 and the enzymes that make glutathione. Each extract in GNM-X releases Nrf2 in its own way:
- Rosemary brings carnosic acid, which binds KEAP1 directly and frees Nrf2 (Satoh et al., 2008, PMID 17995931).
- Ginger brings 6-shogaol, which raised Nrf2 and the antioxidant defenses of human skin cells (PMID 32429495).
- Sophora japonica brings luteolin, a flavonoid that activates the same pathway (PMID 34439516).
The three together were also studied as one combination: rosemary, ginger and luteolin in a 10:5:1 ratio activated Nrf2 in human liver cells, raised the protective genes and strengthened the cells against oxidative stress (Hybertson et al., 2022, PMID 35252766).
How to take it
